Parenting a child whose educational needs don’t fit neatly into the box can come with a lot of questions.
Why is school so hard for my child when they’re clearly capable? What might be underneath the struggles I’m seeing? How do I communicate concerns to a teacher or school team? What kinds of support might actually help? How do I advocate for my child while maintaining a collaborative relationship with their school?
Joyful Horizons offers practical, accessible workshops to help parents and caregivers better understand their children’s strengths and needs, navigate educational challenges, and feel more confident about what to do next.
Workshops are grounded in a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach. You don’t need to know the education jargon or be an expert in school systems. My goal is to give you useful ways to think about what your child is experiencing — and concrete tools you can use to support them.

When your child is having a hard time at school, it can be hard to know what to do next. Maybe you have concerns about your child’s academic, emotional, or social experience, or you’re simply wondering whether they are getting the support and opportunities they need to thrive.
In this practical, parent-focused workshop, we’ll explore ways to communicate your child’s strengths and needs, ask useful questions, prepare for school meetings, collaborate with teachers and school teams, and advocate for your child without feeling like you have to become an expert in education.
We’ll also talk about approaching challenging conversations with greater confidence and understanding, with a focus on building relationships and finding a path forward together.
You’ll leave with practical resources you can use right away, including:
A school-meeting preparation worksheet
Sample scripts and email language for communicating with teachers and school teams
